Andi Drileck September 7, 2016 Non-profit, Uncategorized, Workforce zero One in six Chicagoans rely on the Greater Chicago Food Depository for assistance, a few of that are National Able Network shoppers. September is Hunger Action Month, so last week a couple of Able employees members participated in volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository! Ableâs employees, along with other volunteers, packed a complete of 20,682 pounds of meals that will be distributed to food pantries throughout Chicago this week. When we arrived on the Greater Chicago Food Depository, they gave us a brief introduction with information concerning the group and its mission, then we ventured into the packing rooms. Have you ever seen 10,520 kilos of sweet potatoes? Trust me once I say, itâs lots! We took those candy potatoes, placed them into bags, and packed them into three large bins. We also packed corn, hen salad, and 400 luggage of healthy snacks for a local school. Volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository was an effective way for our employees to return together to serve our local people in a different capability. It promoted teamwork, bonding, and a some healthy competition. During our session, we packed: Chicken Saladâ¦â¦â¦â¦â¦..2,112 lbs Healthy Kids Mealsâ¦â¦..four hundred lbs (over four hundred luggage!)
