Andi Drileck September 7, 2016 Non-profit, Uncategorized, Workforce zero One in six Chicagoans rely on the Greater Chicago Food Depository for assistance, a few of that are National Able Network shoppers. September is Hunger Action Month, so last week a couple of Able employees members participated in volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository! Able’s employees, along with other volunteers, packed a complete of 20,682 pounds of meals that will be distributed to food pantries throughout Chicago this week. When we arrived on the Greater Chicago Food Depository, they gave us a brief introduction with information concerning the group and its mission, then we ventured into the packing rooms. Have you ever seen 10,520 kilos of sweet potatoes? Trust me once I say, it’s lots! We took those candy potatoes, placed them into bags, and packed them into three large bins. We also packed corn, hen salad, and 400 luggage of healthy snacks for a local school. Volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository was an effective way for our employees to return together to serve our local people in a different capability. It promoted teamwork, bonding, and a some healthy competition. During our session, we packed: Chicken Salad……………..2,112 lbs Healthy Kids Meals……..four hundred lbs (over four hundred luggage!)
